DO NOT OPEN ANY EMAIL FROM KATHY LAGOLI

Just wanted to let everyone know that today I received an email from someone named "Kathy Lagoli".  The subject line contained an"re:" about one of my recent posts.  The body of the email contained this message:  "Would you be available to discuss this on the phone?"  This comes after someone who has me on their contacts had their email account hacked into.
I didn't know what to think, so I didn't reply, then decided on a whim to google the name and came upon several sights that said they had received the exact same email, so it appears to be a scam of some sort....so DO NOT REPLY to any such emails.

Update:  Just checking my traffic feed, there are TONS of people googling this name, so it would seem pretty widespread.

  1. Same thing happened to me, as well as many others. I tried to blog about to warn others as well. You can fing a little bit more information on this at cypressvixen.blogspot.com or another blog member who had many responses at theredthreadbetween.blogspot.com. I foolishly gave my number, and hoping there aren't going to be drastic consequences.

  12. Well, I replied to her email, asking to know what in particular about my blog-post she wanted to discuss on the phone. I did not give her my number though.

Then I googled her name and found this post. Thanks for this. I hope you don't mind if I cross post this on my blog to warn my visitors.

  13. I think it would be great if everyone who has a blog and has been affected by this would post about it...get the word out to as many people as possible.
If you've already replied or given this person your number, just be very cautious and never give out any other personal info over the phone. Maybe change your blogger and email passwords, too.

  16. Neat traffic bump to all blogging about this mysterious spam email. Got one in my email, immediately googled, still no clues. (at first I thought it was targeting blogger/blogspot.com & all things owned by Google (groups, youtube, picasa, etc.)but, no) - good part: found 2 neat bloggers!

  20. I got the same emails, but wrote back and asked for her number! Then, I decided to google the name since something about it seemed strange. Glad I didn't give out my number!

  21. OH my I should have read this post before I replied, but I replied only saying I was confused with what she was talking about.

I changed my passwords and things though so hopefully that put an end to that. I am glad I did not give any details about anything.

    This is bad.

  22. Hmmm, I am going to have to check my email now to see if I have gotten any. I am not really sure what someone would do with your phone number as that is easy to obtain public information, unless you are unlisted. Of course they could add you to a telemarketing list since you gave them your number, but that seems kind of a lot of trouble. I will be interested to see what this is all ultimately about.

Thanks for the post and information,
    Tony

  24. Question -- how do we know it's a scam? Honestly, the web is all abuzz with warnings, and all of them seem to say the same thing: "I googled it an it's happened to others too who say it's a scam, therefore it's a scam, spread the word!"

Has anyone actually uncovered a scam, or are we all just perpetuating the most awesome game of Telephone ever?

  25. I just opened an email from her...she should be shot! My mom died in a tragic accident in March...the title of this "Kathy's" email too me was the title of a newspaper article about my mom's accident..off course I opened it.thinking someone had left a comment..which I had signed up to have forwarded to me..the email said..sorry, I have the wrong email..I then googled her name..and found tons of blog posts with the same warnings..

  26. Oh my gosh, jenn...I'm so sorry to hear about your mom...you have my deepest sympathies! (big hugs) It burns me up that the email came to you in that manner! I also got the same email, and it was the third one from "whoever" is doing this. I have no idea what they hope to accomplish by it.
